To enter and work in Vietnam, you’ll need a Business Visa (referred to as DN) followed by a Work Permit. The Business Visa allows you to enter Vietnam to explore business opportunities or commence the process of employment.
• Duration: Usually granted for 3 months, with options for single or multiple entries.
• Application: Can be obtained through the Vietnamese embassy/consulate in your home country or through an online application.
• Application: Washington English will prepare a visa invitation letter for you to pick up a business visa from an overseas Vietnamese Consulate or at the airport upon your arrival.

Yes, you do. Most foreign nationals need a work permit. There are a few exceptions, such as having a Vietnamese spouse, but generally, a work permit is required. A work permit is a document issued by Vietnamese authorities to foreign employees who meet specific legal conditions. It allows them to work legally in Vietnam, ensuring their rights and interests are protected.
Washington English will provide you with detailed introductions to prepare for the documents required to obtain a work permit.

To obtain a work permit in Vietnam, foreign employees must:
• Hold a bachelor’s degree (can be in any majors)
• Hold an English teaching certificate such as TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, and DELTA, especially if the bachelor’s degree doesn’t have a major in English teaching/education/pedagogy.
• A health check, which must be done in Vietnam. Washington English will arrange this for you by sending you to our preferred healthcare provider. This ensures that all necessary medical examinations are conducted in accordance with Vietnamese regulations. Health checks performed outside of Vietnam are not accepted. The health check includes the following tests: blood, urine, vision, hearing, teeth, an ultrasound, and a chest x-ray.
• Police background check: The check must be valid within 06 months of your work permit application date. The foreign employee must not have any criminal record or be undergoing criminal prosecution in accordance with Vietnamese or foreign law. The police background check is preferred to be done from your home country, but a Vietnamese one is also acceptable.
• 02 passport photos (4cm x 6cm) with a white background, wearing formal clothes and showing your frontal view, without any head covering or colored glasses. The photos must be taken within 06 months of the application date.
• Notarized copy of your valid passport A copy of all pages of your passport.
• For any document to be used in Vietnam, it must be legalized if it was not issued by an organization that the Vietnamese government recognizes.

However, there are certain aspects, such as document legalization, that you will need to handle independently. Rest assured, we’ll be with you every step of the way to provide detailed instructions and assistance whenever needed.

The salary varies among departments and is determined based on the most updated pay structure as well as your relevant qualifications, experiences and their suitability for the position. Generally, here is how the hourly teaching rate looks like:

  • Public School Teaching: Up to 600,000 VND/teaching hour (Gross)
  • IELTS Teaching: Up to 650,000 VND/teaching hour (Gross)

After each contract is completed, we will conduct performance reviews and offer annual pay increases depending on the teacher’s actual performance. The rates are gross and will be taxed in accordance with the Vietnamese Tax Law.

A teaching schedule varies by department and is established by its demands and requirements.
• Public School Teaching: Monday- Friday. Classes are scheduled between 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM (morning sessions) and 12:45 PM – 5:45 PM (afternoon sessions). Full-time teachers are expected to have approximately 70-75  teaching hours on average per month.
• Language Center Teaching: Classes are scheduled between 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM on weekday evenings and between 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM on weekends

At Washington English, we cater to a diverse range of students starting from the age of 4 and above.
• Language Center Teaching at the headquarters focuses on Primary (6-10 years old) and Secondary (11-14 years old) education, providing a strong academic foundation for younger learners.
• Public School Teaching offer classes for all ages and levels, making education accessible to everyone in the public school systems of Primary School Level (5 to 11 years old), Secondary School Level (12 to 15 years old), High School Level (15 to 18 years old).

Class sizes at Washington English can vary depending on the program.
• Language Center Teaching has a maximum of 15 students per class. and Public Centre: classes typically have a maximum size of 26 students.
• Public School Teaching has a larger class size up to 45 students per class, depending on the partner public school setting.
• IELTS Teaching has a minimum of 10 students and maximum of 25 students per class.

Yes, Washington English is committed to providing the necessary support to create a collaborative and highly effective learning environment. In every single class, you will be supported by either one of our highly trained Teaching Assistants (TAs) or the local Vietnamese English Teacher at our partner public school.

Contract duration differs depending on which program you are going to work with:
• Public School Teaching: Typically, the contract duration spans over 9 months, starting in September and finishing in May, in line with the academic year in Vietnam. Should you join in the middle of the school year, the contract length will be prorated based on your start month until May.
• Language Center Teaching: The contract duration is 12 months as per company regulations and policies.
• IELTS Teaching: The contract duration is usually 24 months in accordance to the program curriculum.
